Observance Rules

The specific rules a household tradition or craft custom sets for how a holiday, seasonal practice or observance is kept: what is prepared, what is required, and who carries it out. An observance rule entry is narrower than the holiday or practice it belongs to, spelling out the letter of the custom rather than its meaning, and it records where regional or family variations change how the custom is carried out.
